录音、转写、区分说话人全程在这台 iPhone 上处理，录音和文字也存在这台 iPhone 上。我们没有服务器，也不用注册账号。在「设置」里打开 iCloud 同步以后，会同步到你自己的 iCloud（苹果的服务）。
要联网吗？为什么 iPhone 问能不能使用无线数据？
转写不用联网，飞行模式下也能录、能转。要联网的只有三种时候，连的都是苹果的官方服务：打开了 iCloud 同步；在 Pro 页购买、恢复购买（App Store）；第一次转英语、粤语、日语、韩语时，从苹果的服务器下载这几种语言的转写模型。国行 iPhone 上，App 第一次联网时系统都会问一次，所以会在这几个时候问。不允许也不影响录音和普通话转写。
录音时锁屏、接电话、切到别的 App 会怎样？
锁屏、切到别的 App 都接着录，锁屏和灵动岛上能看到计时，能直接打标记、暂停。来电话时录音会停一下，挂了电话自动接着录，断开的地方在时间轴上标出来。万一 App 被系统关掉、手机没电，下次打开会把已经录到的找回来。
录完要等多久？
边录边转的字录完马上能看。要区分说话人的录音，录完还要在手机上按人重新转一遍：iPhone 15 Pro Max 上，每小时录音大约要 4 到 5 分半钟。等的时候可以锁屏，锁屏上有进度，好了会发一条通知。
标题下面的「N 处没把握」是什么？
转写时把握不大的字，在文稿里标黄。点「N 处没把握」，一处一处地听那几秒、确认或者改字。在公开的会议录音测试集上，标出来的地方大约八成确实有错；但不是每个错字都标得出来，重要的录音还是建议从头听一遍。目前只有普通话的录音会标。
发言人分错了怎么办？
点发言人名字旁边的「命名」：改一次名，全篇一起改；两个其实是同一个人，用「合并两个人」；一个人说着说着换了人，用「从某句起拆开」，点那一句，选是谁说的。
怎么从微信、语音备忘录导入？
微信里打开音频文件，点右上角「…」，选「用其他应用打开」，再选「逐字录音笔」。语音备忘录里点「分享」，选「逐字录音笔」。也可以在录音库右上角点导入，从「文件」里选。
人名、专业词总转错，怎么办？
在「设置 › 术语词表」里写下来（Pro）。以后转的录音，读音一样、字不一样的地方会改成词表里的写法；已经转好的，在文稿页右上角「…」里点「按术语词表改一遍」。
能转哪些语言？
普通话（夹在中文里的英文单词和缩写，比如 deadline、PPT，也能转出来）、英语、粤语、日语、韩语。录音前在录音键下面选语言，导入时在导入页选；选错了，在文稿页右上角「…」里点「用别的语言重新转写」。普通话的模型随 App 安装；英语、粤语、日语、韩语共用一个转写模型，约 230 MB，第一次选的时候从苹果的服务器下载，下载好以后同样全程在这台 iPhone 上转写，不用联网。普通话、粤语可以出繁体字：「设置 › 中文用繁体字」。四川话、上海话这些方言还不支持。
哪些免费，Pro 多了什么？
录音不限时长，每条录音转写前 30 分钟；文件夹、搜索、校对、导出 TXT、复制全文、iCloud 同步、面容 ID 锁，一直免费，也没有广告。Pro 是一次买断，不订阅、不自动续费，可以家人共享，多出来的是：转写不限时长，不限次区分说话人，导出 Word、PDF、SRT 字幕，术语词表，批量导入和视频转写。
免费版只转写前 30 分钟，后面的录音还在吗？
在。录音不限时长，超过 30 分钟的部分照常完整保存，可以播放，也可以发出去；只是 30 分钟以后的没有转成文字。录音页开录时就会写明，文稿最后也会标出转到了哪里。买了 Pro 以后，在那条录音的文稿最后点「转完整条」，会从头转到尾，以前录的也可以。
Pro 能先试试吗？
能。新用户可以先试 3 次：一条录音按 Pro 整理完，超过 30 分钟、或者分出两个人以上，才算用掉一次，那条录音一直能用全部 Pro 功能；不到 30 分钟又只有一个人说话的不算。处理页和文稿页上会标出「Pro 试用」和剩下几次。
换手机或者重装之后，买过的 Pro 怎么找回来？
用买的时候那个 Apple 账户登录，打开「设置 › 升级 Pro」，点右上角「恢复购买」。
换手机怎么把录音带过去？
两种办法任选：打开 iCloud 同步，新手机登录同一个 Apple 账户再打开同步；或者用 iPhone 整机备份（iCloud 云备份或电脑备份）恢复到新手机。
录别人说话要注意什么？
录音前请先告诉在场的人，征得同意。逐字录音笔录音时，App 里、锁屏和灵动岛上一直有「录音中」的提示，也不提供任何隐蔽录音的功能。

Word for Word: recording to text, all on your iPhone
Words transcribed wrong, speakers mixed up, a feature you’d like — write to me; I read every email. Just mention your iPhone model, iOS version, and which screen and step went wrong. There’s no need to send recordings or transcripts.

Recording, transcription and speaker separation happen entirely on this iPhone, and recordings and transcripts are stored on it. We have no servers and there’s no sign-up. If you turn on iCloud Sync in Settings, they sync to your own iCloud (an Apple service).
Does it need an internet connection?
Transcription works offline, even in Airplane Mode. The app goes online in only three cases, always to Apple’s own services: when iCloud Sync is on; when you buy or restore Pro (App Store); and the first time you transcribe English, Cantonese, Japanese or Korean, to download the model for those languages from Apple’s servers.
What happens if I lock the phone, get a call, or switch apps while recording?
Recording continues when you lock the phone or switch apps; the timer shows on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, where you can add marks and pause. A phone call pauses the recording, and it resumes automatically when you hang up; the gap is marked on the timeline. If iOS closes the app or the battery runs out, what was recorded is recovered the next time you open it.
How long do I wait after recording?
The live transcript is ready the moment you stop. Recordings with speaker separation are then re-transcribed speaker by speaker on the phone: on an iPhone 15 Pro Max, about 4 to 5½ minutes per hour of audio. You can lock the phone meanwhile; progress shows on the Lock Screen, and you get a notification when it’s done.
What are the “uncertain spots” under the title?
Words the transcription wasn’t sure about are highlighted in yellow. Tap “N uncertain spots” to go through them one by one: listen to those few seconds, then confirm or correct. On public meeting-recording test sets, about 80% of the highlighted spots really were wrong, but not every error gets highlighted, so for important recordings it’s still worth listening through. Currently only Mandarin recordings are marked.
The speakers are mixed up. What can I do?
Tap Name next to a speaker: rename once and it changes everywhere. If two speakers are really one person, use Merge Two Speakers. If someone else took over partway through, use Split from a Sentence, tap that sentence and choose who said it.
How do I import from Voice Memos or WeChat?
In Voice Memos, tap Share and choose Word for Word. In WeChat, open the audio file, tap “…” at the top right, choose to open it in another app, then choose Word for Word. You can also tap Import at the top right of your recordings and pick a file from Files.
Names and technical terms keep coming out wrong.
Add them in Settings › Glossary (Pro). In later recordings, words that sound the same but are written differently are changed to your spelling. For transcripts already done, tap “…” at the top right of the transcript and choose Apply Glossary.
Which languages can it transcribe?
Mandarin (including English words mixed into Chinese, like deadline or PPT), English, Cantonese, Japanese and Korean. Choose the language under the record button before recording, or on the Import screen when importing; if you picked the wrong one, tap “…” at the top right of the transcript and choose Transcribe in Another Language. The Mandarin model comes with the app. English, Cantonese, Japanese and Korean share one model of about 230 MB, downloaded from Apple’s servers the first time you choose one of them; after that, transcription stays entirely on this iPhone and works offline. Mandarin and Cantonese can be written in Traditional characters: Settings › Traditional Chinese Characters. Other languages and dialects aren’t supported yet.
What’s free, and what does Pro add?
Recording has no length limit, and the first 30 minutes of each recording are transcribed. Folders, search, proofreading, TXT export, Copy All Text, iCloud Sync and Face ID Lock are always free, with no ads. Pro is a one-time purchase — no subscription, no auto-renewal, shareable with Family Sharing — and adds: transcription of any length, unlimited speaker separation, Word, PDF and SRT subtitle export, the Glossary, batch import and video transcription.
The free version transcribes only the first 30 minutes. Is the rest of the recording kept?
Yes. Recording has no length limit; everything after 30 minutes is saved in full and can be played and shared — it just isn’t transcribed. The recording screen says so when you start, and the transcript shows where transcription stops. After buying Pro, tap Transcribe All at the end of that transcript to transcribe it from start to finish, including older recordings.
Can I try Pro first?
Yes. New users get 3 Pro tries. A recording processed as Pro uses a try only if it’s longer than 30 minutes or has two or more speakers, and that recording keeps every Pro feature; recordings under 30 minutes with one speaker don’t count. The processing and transcript screens show a “Pro trial” tag and how many tries are left.
How do I get Pro back on a new phone or after reinstalling?
Sign in with the Apple Account you bought it with, open Settings › Upgrade to Pro, and tap Restore Purchases at the top right.
How do I move my recordings to a new phone?
Either turn on iCloud Sync, then sign in to the same Apple Account on the new phone and turn sync on there; or restore an iPhone backup (iCloud Backup or a computer backup) to the new phone.
What should I keep in mind when recording other people?
Tell the people present and get their consent before recording. While Word for Word records, “Recording” is always shown in the app, on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, and the app has no hidden-recording features.
